How does it work?
Students log in, watch a video, and complete a course with a short quiz. It's really that simple!
We help kids grow academically, socially, and emotionally – all from the comfort of home.
Each course is developmentally appropriate for each level and uses evidence-based practices to focus on academic achievement, career exploration, and social-emotional learning.
ACSEL exists to help parents and caregivers help their students with academics, career exploration, and social-emotional learning.
There are 49.6 million K-12th students enrolled in the United States. How can ACSEL help yours?
What's the difference between counseling and coaching?
Focus & Goals
Coaching focuses on achieving specific personal or professional goals, enhancing performance, and developing skills. It is future-oriented, helping clients maximize their potential and achieve desired outcomes.
Mental Health Counseling focuses on addressing emotional, psychological, and behavioral issues. It is often more past-oriented, helping clients understand and heal from mental health conditions, traumas, or life challenges.
Training & Certification
Coaches may or may not have formal training in psychology or counseling. They often receive certifications in life, business, or executive coaching, focusing on goal-setting and motivational techniques.
Mental Health Counselors are licensed professionals who hold advanced degrees (e.g., MA, MS, or PhD) and are trained to diagnose and treat mental health conditions, typically requiring state licensure.
Client Population
Coaching is typically aimed at individuals who are mentally healthy but want to enhance their performance, achieve specific goals, or make changes in their personal or professional lives.
Mental Health Counseling serves individuals who may be struggling with mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma, or other emotional challenges, requiring a therapeutic approach.
Approach & Techniques
Coaching tends to use forward-looking strategies like goal-setting, accountability, and motivation. Coaches provide feedback, encourage self-reflection, and focus on actionable steps for the future.
Mental Health Counseling often involves therapeutic techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, or mindfulness, aimed at helping clients process emotions, gain insight, and develop coping mechanisms.
